In December 2010, Alex was arrested for civil disobedience outside the White House alongside Truthdig columnist Chris Hedges, Pentagon whistle-blower Daniel Ellsberg, healthcare activist Margaret Flowers and 130 other anti-war activists, many of them veterans. The group was released after a few hours, and a few weeks later Alex began an internship at Harper’s Magazine. He joined Truthdig in May 2011 as an assistant editor.

Before joining the site, Alex covered the United Nations’ annual climate change conferences in Copenhagen for the Seattle-based reporting firm InvestigateWest and in Cancun on a fellowship with the Earth Journalism Network. His team’s coverage of the Copenhagen talks won a first place award from the Society of Professional Journalists. He studied literature and the sciences at Western Washington University and was in Manhattan for Occupy Wall Street. He contributes to the “Truthdigger of the Week” and “Photo of the Week” features and Truthdig’s award-winning “Ear to the Ground” section.

Alex brought work by Greg Palast, Henry Giroux, Ellen Brown, Tom Engelhardt, economists Michael Hudson and Andrew Kliman, and the Climate News Network to Truthdig. His work has appeared at Truthdig, The Nation, Counterpunch and elsewhere.
